Application Focus Week (AFW)

Application focus week is a fortnight at the end of every half term. The application focus weeks encourage children to apply the skills they have learnt in different subjects within a relevant and interesting theme. The week always starts off with a creative and engaging stimulus shown to children through our whole school assembly. The children work in teams, taking on different responsibilities. This includes being team leaders, resource managers or time-keepers. This is effective in helping children to understand working to deadlines and the importance of organisation, preparing them for the next stage of their education. Each application focus week has a whole school outcome; this can range from a class book, display, assembly or community event.

Britsh Values- 16 May 2015

We will once again be having a British Values themed Application Focus Week. This is an exciting AFW where we celebrate our diversity at Lucas Vale Primary School; learn all about the country we live in. We will be looking at how these values are shown across the world and in our school. In addition, children will have the opportunity to work in teams collaborating and sharing ideas whilst continually developing the attributes of commitment, loyalty, integrity, discipline, courage and respect.

The second AFW week will start on 11 March and the subject will be Science.

We have special events occurring, please click here for full details.

Growth Mindset 8 February

We will be learning and exploring the simple idea 'Growth Mindset'. This idea was discovered by world-renowned Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck in decades of research on achievement and success - a simple idea that makes all the difference. Teaching a growth mindset creates motivation and productivity in the worlds of business, education and sports. Children will be learning that intelligence is not fixed but something that must and needs to be continually developed. Look out for letters inviting you to your child's class assembly to learn more about this fantastic idea yourself.
