Welcome to Year 6
Hi my name is Cal Byrne, our blog page will have information on the interesting things that we have been doing in class and also details of the fantastic trips that we go on. Our latest year group newsletter can be found under the News and Events page. There you will find the work we are planning to do this term.
Created Friday 2nd December 2016
In Year 6 we have been learning about World War II. Our history focus for this week is evacuation. Evacuations happened when children were separated from their families and left the homes in the city to live in the country. The families that fostered these children received 10 shillings and 6 pence. The children wore luggage labels around their necks with their name, address, school and where they were travelling to written on. Sometimes parents were evacuated too. The reason there were so many evacuees from London was because it was really dangerous to live in an urban area or near factories due to the bombs dropped during The Blitz. We have been reading a book called ‘A Candle in the Dark’ which is all about a young girl and her brother who also need to leave their home because of the war, but these children lived in Germany.
ROALD DAHL DAY
On the 13th of September 2016, Year 6 celebrated Roald Dahl day because it was the 100 year anniversary of his birth. Everyone was dressed up as Roald Dahl characters. There were loads of Matilda’s, a Charlie bucket, a witch, the Twits, Violet Beauregarde, Mrs Trunchbull and many more!
